Reconduction des fonds à la FCSCA :: Renewal of the CFCAS research grant budget

Étant donné que:

• La recherche universitaire sur le climat est principalement subventionnée par la Fondation Canadienne pour les Sciences du Climat et de l'Atmosphère (FCSCA)
• Depuis 2008, malgré les nombreuses demandes, le gouvernement n’a toujours pas renouvelé les fonds pour la recherche de la FCSCA
• À ce jour, aucun autre organisme subventionnaire ne s’est engagé à prendre la relève de la FCSCA pour soutenir la recherche sur les sciences du climat
• Une discontinuité dans le financement des sciences du climat entraînerait un exode des spécialistes et la fermeture de certains groupes de recherche
• Ces groupes de recherches nécessitant des dizaines d'années de développement, leur disparition équivaudrait à renier les efforts importants en temps et en argent investis par le passé ainsi qu’un gaspillage des projets de recherche en cours qui ne pourront être achevés
• La disparition de l’expertise canadienne en sciences du climat diminuerait notre capacité à prévoir et à s’adapter aux changements climatiques

Nous, soussignés, demandons au gouvernement canadien de reconduire le budget de subvention à la recherche de la FCSCA sans en modifier la mission et les orientations.

Seeing that:

• Climate research done at the university is mainly funded by the Canadian Foundation for Climate and Atmospheric Sciences (CFCAS)
• Since 2008, despite numerous requests, the government has not renewed CFCAS’s research funding
• To this day, no other funding agency has accepted to take over for CFCAS in order to maintain climate research
• A discontinuity in the financial support of climate sciences would lead to a brain drain of specialists and the shutdown of some research groups
• These research groups need tens of years to develop, their disappearance would mean that the time and money spent in the past were worthless and would lead to the wasting of current research projects that won’t be able to be completed
• The loss of Canadian expertise in climate sciences would diminish our ability to predict and to adapt to climate changes

We, undersigned, demand from the Canadian government that it would renew the CFCAS research grant budget without modifying its mission and orientations in research.
